Solon, OH — The U.S. Army Contracting Office at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland awarded a UH-60 repair contract to Aerospace Maintenance Solutions, LLC (AMS). The work will include repairing a component that integrates with the helicopter’s Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS). AMS has experience with both the specific component and the AFCS, which benefits the Army several ways.
Because AMS had previous experience repairing the component, their engineers had already written and proven out a complete set of test procedures. Likewise, the test equipment needed by the Army was already developed and tested. So, both the test procedures and the test equipment have been put to use immediately for the U.S. Army, to speed the repair and return-to-service of their units.
With no support from the OEM to repair this legacy product from the 1970s, AMS became the sole source for servicing the units and extending their lifecycles. For the Army, replacing the loss of OEM to support legacy aircraft parts with repair services solves an important DMSMS issue. In this case, AMS delivered a plan to the Army that outlines solutions to the component’s DMSMS issues.
AMS solves other DMSMS problems through “Reverse Engineering” an existing product design, then manufacturing new units under both the new and existing part numbers. By solving these and other DMSMS issues, AMS helps overcome obsolescence issues and prevent the adverse impacts on the mission readiness of the U.S. DoD.
